Several socio-economic factors influence older European’s propensity to use ICT, and educational attainment must be seen as the dominant variable here. Age and income are also strongly discriminating factors, and “activity orientation” represents a very significant lifestyle part influencing IST take-up. Gender differences are still significant but not as relevant as other demographic variables. The remaining explanatory power of “impairment” is only small: Having hearing troubles makes ICT involvement more, dexterity less likely. Vision proves not to be relevant in this model. Altogether, 38% of the observed variance can be attributed to the factors listed here.
