ICT involvement divides the older population as regards their attitudes, skills and usage of technology. The European 50+ population covers the whole variety of ICT involvement which can be observed with regard to younger age groups. About one third (31%) are heavily at risk of being left behind, the so called "digitally challenged". Another 29% - despite being non-users - express their willingness to learn about computer technology. We have call this group the “the technologically open-minded”. The “late beginners“ (13%) – despite having already gained some hands-on experience with computers – rarely use this technology and have not yet gained advanced computer skills. Finally, the "experienced frontrunners" who regularly use a computer technology or possess advanced computing skills account for roughly a quarter (27%) of the EU 50+ population.
