Medication Aid device and the Parkinson Card

A Dutch Initiative.

50 % of all prescribed medicines is used by people who are older than 65. Many people, mainly older people, have problems with the use of described medication treatment as a result of forgetfulness or dementia. The point of time that the medicine has to be taken, has been forgotten more than once, through which the working of the medicine miss the aim. Sometimes this makes provision home care or removal to a home for the elderly necessary.

Landmark, design office in Rotterdam developed in co-operation with a software company a medical aid service, that supports the medication plan elderly people and people with memory problems. This aid consists of a small 'book', the so called "Ex Libris", with a groove for a smart card and a display, on which the medication appears after an alarm signal. Care insurer 'Zorg en Zekerheid' in Leiden adopted the system and fasten it to the Parkinson card, a care-card for Parkinson patients. On this moment a pre test has been carry out with 20 Parkinsons patients, their medical experts and their pharmacy.
